Hendrick ter Brugghen
Hendrick ter Brugghen (1588–1629) was a Dutch Baroque painter, probably born in The Hague. He studied under Abraham Bloemaert in Utrecht and spent several years in Italy, where he became familiar with Caravaggio's paintings. He became one of the leading representatives of the Utrecht Caravaggisti, distinguished by his expressive use of light and shadow, naturalism, and depictions of biblical and mythological subjects, as well as scenes of everyday life.
