Rogier van der Weyden
Rogier van der Weyden (c. 1399–1464), also known as Rogier de la Pasture, was a painter born in Tournai and one of the leading masters of 15th-century Flemish painting. He trained under Robert Campin and became the official painter of the city of Brussels in 1435, where he directed a highly influential workshop. He was renowned for his religious paintings and portraits, characterized by realistic details and intense emotional expression. Among his most important works is The Descent from the Cross, preserved in the Prado Museum in Madrid. His workshop produced numerous paintings based on his compositions, although the individual artists responsible for each work cannot always be identified.
